In a step to make it free of congestion, Thane has come up with a citywide hybrid simulation model for managing vehicular traffic. The entire traffic network of the city will be mapped and modelled digitally. This would help agencies to plan, execute and monitor traffic more efficiently, Thane Municipal Corporation said in an official release here today. The model has been jointly developed by Medulla Soft Technologies Pvt Ltd India (MST) and Transport Simulation Systems Spain (TSS). MST-TSS CEO Shantanu Sharma today submitted the final report of the model to Thane Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal and Mayor Sanjay More. On the occasion, Jaiswal said this will help in realising the dream of a walkable Thane and smart mobility in the city. The Mayor said that such exercises will help Thane to be recognised as a world class city.
With a view to easing the flow of pedestrian traffic and reduce its interface with vehicular traffic in South Mumbai, the Mumbai Transformation Support Unit (MTSU), along with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, has started a threemonth virtual observation of traffic movement in the densely populated southern tip of the island city. Based on the observations recorded, the BMC will undertake appropriate steps in coordination with other agencies, such as the Mumbai Traffic Police and MMRDA. The project commissioned by MTSU director B C Khatua on February 27 was given to Delhi-based Medulla Soft, which will carry out the virtual simulation. The project is being funded by the BMC. Shantanu Sharma, CEO of the company, said the idea was to understand the situation by means of recording happenings.

Thane Municipal Corporation is mulling to install a monitoring device on all new Kalva bridge in Thane, Mumbai to helo alert about any structural weakening in the constructions and take timely coercive action. The sensors in the system will detect minor structural changes in the bridge and warn officials about defects to ensure timely repairs.
